Tewet tarn Tewet tarn
in the evening the western fells take centre stage the long line of peaks makes a beautiful silhouette from Catbells and red pike on the left, Grisdale pike in the centre and lord seat on the right. At a quick look I can make out ten summits but the more observant could probably find more.

Castelrigg at sunsetCastelrigg at sunset
This mysterious stone circle has stood for thousands of years on the brow of Castlerigg. It was thought to have been a trading centre for Lansdale Axes. Others believe the silhouette of the stones mark the changing of the seasons. I caught this wild sunset at the end of a stormy autumn day. A truly awe inspiring view.

Ullswater Ullswater
Sitting on the bench above Yew Crags gives you a view of the entire length of Ullswater. Starting at Pooley Bridge on the left you can follow the Roman road called High Street which follows the ridgeline over Barton Fell to Loadpot Hill over looking Martindale. Then it disappears behind High Dodd and Place Fell on the eastern shores of the lake. At the top of the lake, just in view, is Silver Point and Glenridding. Above is Stony Cove and then on towards the southern end of the Helvellyn range

Ullswater -- Pooley Bridge SunsetUllswater -- Pooley Bridge Sunset
In the calm of an autumn sunset with a view down the lake, the mountains stand proud on the skyline. The first peak on the right is Stybarrow Dodd, then you can follow the ridge along to Raise and Helvellyn. The ridge then works its way down to Dollywagon Pike where it disappears behind Birk Fell, Place Fell and finally the top of High Street.

Sunrise at Castlerigg Stone CircleSunrise at Castlerigg Stone Circle
Of all the corners of the Lake District this must be one of the most atmospheric. The glow of the imminent sunrise is behind Clough Head and the mist hangs low in St Johns in the Vale. The outline of the Rigg echoes that of the Helvellyn range in the distance with the curve of high cloud already caught by the early morning sun
